The red light district can be both intimidating and exciting, but you only need to walk for two minutes beyond it's bounderies to reach some of the most serene and picturesque sites on offer anywhere in the world. It is surprising that such paradoxal facets can exist in harmony in such close proximity. Entertainment is everywhere in Amsterdam: in the cinemas, clubs and theatres, but most of all on the streets. Tourist spots such as Rembrandtplein and Dam attract every kind of street performer, day and night. Amsterdam is breathtaking by night.
